A cat that will slink around the house,
Be mesmerised by dust particles that could be the beginnings of another universe.
That will hold staring contests with the old lady across the road.
With marbled eyes that look at me with disdain (and love)
A cat that will be in World War 27 with its tail,
Who will bounce off the walls as though infected with life,
Be obsessed with chasing that piece of string again,
Who is a tiny bit insane, because really, we all are.
A cat that stares out into the world through the window,
And then spends the next 12 hours hunting grass,
To do figures of eight around my ankles,
Who will wink at me secretly, because the cat knows I know.
