Long before any of them came along, it was just you and me and the most difficult thing we had to face was how to stop laughing too loudly in the dark past bedtime.
It has been day in and out with you, and all those bike rides, shopping trips and pure nothingness that we have ever done are long gone and now I am left staring at a photograph whose eyes avoid mine as yours do.
I am not sure at what point it changed, but that subtle shift is creating a void that I do not want to fill.
I’ll be waiting for you, hoping that you’ll knock on my door again. Because it was just you and me, long before any of them came along.
